If you have good quality content on your site, there's a greater chance of seeing search results come up higher.

It’s of course better to fill your site with page after page of the good stuff, each page containing ad units and opportunities to earn revenue. So try and write it yourself. Pick a subject you like, care, know about and pour it out.

If you know everything there is to know about home improvement, set up a site stuffed with tool reviews, news and howto's, and write all the articles yourself. Your AdSense units will give you ads related to home improvement and if they are positioned properly they should give you revenue to fund your hobby and more. But, choose any topic you like.
Got it going? Then do a newsletter and lead your visitors back to your site. Maybe start a forum to enable them to share.
